La Selección Colombia obtuvo el pase a los octavos de final del Mundial de fútbol de Rusia 2018 al ganar este jueves a Senegal (1-0) en el tercer y último partido del grupo H, disputado este jueves en el Samara Arena de esa localidad rusa.
Al descanso se había llegado sin goles, resultado que no le valía al equipo del argentino José Pekerman, dado que en el otro encuentro, Japón y Polonia también empataban a cero. Pero un tanto de Yerry Mina, al cabecear un córner de Juan Quintero, en el minuto 74, dio el pase, como primera de grupo, a Colombia.
Senegal, igualada a todo con Japón -que cayó en el otro partido, ante Polonia, por idéntico resultado- quedó eliminada por mayor número de tarjetas que los nipones, dejando a África sin representación en el torneo, después de que con anterioridad hubiesen quedado matemáticamente eliminadas las otras cuatro selecciones de ese continente: Túnez, Egipto, Marruecos y Nigeria.
